Episcopal/Anglican worship is rooted in music.  The mission of St. John's Music Ministry is to offer music to the glory of God during worship services, and to support the congregation experience music as a vital part of worship.  At the core of this ministry is the all volunteer St. John's Choir who offer their gifts of music to support worship at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and other special services.  If you are interested in joining the Choir, please contact Mary VanSwol.

JOB OPENING
Director of Music

The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist is currently searching for an individual of mature faith to join the ministry staff as our next Director of Music.  The Parish has a commitment to high-quality worship music, an openness to diverse genres of music, and an experienced choir.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have an appreciation for liturgy as expressed in the Anglican tradition;
  • Be a proficient accompanist (preference will be given to those candidates who show proficiency on both the piano and organ);
  • Be a skilled choral director.

The Director of Music will be responsible for selecting congregational hymns, choral anthems, and other special music appropriate to the liturgical season.  They will be expected to provide music for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Holy Week services, and other feast days as may scheduled; and lead one choir rehearsal per week.  (Currently, the choir rehearses before and after the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays.)  For other special services, including weddings and funerals, the Director of Music will have first option to play or, if not available, will coordinate a supply organist as the need requires.

The starting salary range is $17,000 to $22,000 (based on proficiency and experience), with additional compensation for weddings and funerals.

To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to the Rector, Fr. Jeremy Froyen, at frjeremy@mysje.org.
